Town Track Rethink

after being told abit more about the background story and location for the racing game, i have decided to get rid of the factory section completely and replace it with more streets of the town. the town will continue to be a maze for the racers to navigate to find the quickest way out of the town and find hidden water towers to re fuel the racing cars. the town will still lead off into the countryside.

track ideas.

when my race track enters the countryside, there will be a central dirt track to lead the way for the drivers. maybe if the drivers stick to the track they will be able to go full speed. for those who are driving on the fields, their speed will dip. just a thought.

ios design track layout

this is how the layout for the ios track will look. the ios track uses the theme of the point to point track and includes some of the main features of the that track.
the track starts in the railway station and the racers will have to navigate their way round the coaches and trucks on the railway tracks which will then lead the racers into the town. the racers will then drive through the streets before making their way to the factory. the factory has to two paths to follow. one way is a long straight that goes around the factory and the other is a maze like path around barrels, crates etc. the track will then lead back to the station where the finishing line is.

ios designs

As well as designing a point to point race track, i have also have to design a circuit track for a mobile version of the themed race track. The ios version still uses the came theme as the point to point track such as the town, factory and the station. Here are two section maps to help with the layout of the circuit track.

I felt the track travelling into the countryside might be to much for just a circuit track so I've decided to keep the track based around the town aspects of the theme.

Town Section Concept

The image shows the track layout of the town section of the race track. The players will race around the town before heading out of town into the countryside.

this sketch shows the second part of the town track. The sketch includes the factory which the track will take the players through and the route out of the town. there is also a narrow back alley the players must drive down. the alleyway will be the width of one car.

Concept Jump idea

This is a update from my earlier sketch. This concept shows how the jump would be placed in the track. there  will be different way to navigate through the town and the jump is one of the ways to get through the town area of the track.

the sketch isn't very clear so i'm going to do it up in photoshop. in the street part of my track the players will have to navigate the street. the sketch shows a jump on the track.

2nd track design version 2


2nd track design - the players will work their way through the town and then up into the hills and countryside. after pasting the farm the players will then pass through a railway yard and railway station avoiding the railway coaches and the stationed train. After passing under the bridge and racing through the tunnel, the players will then reach the finish.

this is a sketch of the track for the game. the track starts of in the town and the racers have to work their through the streets. after that the track goes into the countryside on dirt tracks and across hills. the racers will also pass a farm before going back into town. the track then takes the racers back into the town through the a railway yard and train station. the racers will have to maze their way around the coaches in the yard and then go through the train station. under the bridge and through the tunnel, the racers will then reach the finishing point.

Early Research

I will be researching in the era of the 1900's - industrial revolution time. I'll be looking at buildings and landscape and the style of the era. I'll also be researching into racing tracks and rally stages.
